
I don't remember the author, but I do remember the quotation from my childhood times:
from the times I used to have books for breakfast, dinner & supper :))
"To make mistakes it is manly, to forgive it is godly."
The author might be Dante, but I am not sure.
Anyway, I think, the essence of the phrase, not the author is what matters.
I agreed with the quotation then as well as I agree with it now.
I think "manly" means natural for human and mistake is natural for us
and "godly" is above human power, it is unnatural for human, but a feature of God.
That is why we need God to be able to forgive:
Jesus as a living example, Holy Spirit as a working tool in us...
