The pressURE TO be beauTIFUL/ TURIU būti graži?!

I felt a big pressure to be beautiful in Lithuania. Going to the street without make-up or a "proper" garment felt something uncomfortable, something uneasy to me. It's much easier in the Netherlands for I can relax more. The reason for easiness is that Dutch girls don't care that much about their clothes, make-up and hair-do as Lithuanians do.

Here, in NL, when I wear the same cloth as in LT, I feel being too sparkish. And when I wear something simple, with which I wouldn't go out in LT, I see that for Dutch people it seems quite appropriate.

I am curious what do you think, does the culture really put the pressure on us to be beautiful + does the culture create beauty stereotypes?

Yours,
L.

I think in the Netherlands girls do care about fashion, esp in the western part of NL. Only we don't do it too much!! There is a Dutch saying "doe maar gewoon dan doe je al gek genoeg" it means (just do normal, that is already crazy enough).

I think it would be more (sub)cultures that might create fashion stereotypes, look at the Gothic style, and maybe Rap scene where people dress similair.

Thanks for yor reaction :)
Yes, I agree that girls care about the fashion, but even the fashion is different here: it's more about jeans, long skirts and simple + comfortable clothes. The fashion in Lithuania is more about elegant dresses & figure showing skirts :)

No offense, but looking objectively,) in LT we have lots of very beautiful girls who know how to take care well of their beauty. Most of them are slim. So it shapes the etalon of beauty in my country. The 'slim + tall model type'.

In NL I feel like the beauty etalon is more about 'normal girls'. :)
Or am I wrong?

Ok, well :) we are both right. I'll explain what i mean. Of course, every country has beautiful girls & of course, every nationality has smth exceptional: Dutch, Lithuanian, Spanish, whatever. Also what is beautiful is a relative concept.

But what I was talking about: not about actresses or singers, but simple girls from the street. So my reflection is that in Lithuania we have A BIG QUANTITY of beautiful girls. So that what you see in the street in LT differs from what you see in the USA or NL.

not because of any other reason, but because i want you to understand what i meant: many friends of mine as well as me, felt being "normal" in LT, but when we travel and live abroad, there we start feeling "beautiful" because of lots of attention from guys. Lithuanian guys are spoiled because there is too big choice of beautiful girls.

This is not only my and my friends' experience from the same USA, Netherlands, Italy, Scandinavia, UK.
Also foreigners who come to Lithuania say so.

Still I can imagine that because we have different experiences, we might see through different glasses, but that just means different opinions and it's ok to have different opinions.
